That’s Not Fair! The Limits of Workplace Discrimination Law

After almost a half-century of litigation, the law concerning workplace discrimination is still evolving. Join Professor Barbara Lee for a stimulating discussion on who is protected by these laws, who is not, and what changes may be on the horizon.

Barbara Lee, Professor, Human Resource Management, School of Management and Labor Relations

Professor Lee is an expert on workplace discrimination in both academic and nonacademic settings. She has written numerous books and articles on the topic, including Academics in Court, a book on the effects of discrimination litigation on plaintiffs and employer defendants. She has also served as an expert witness in discrimination cases. Lee is a former dean of the School of Management and Labor Relations.

MTV as Textbook: Reading Culture through Music Videos

Since its launch in 1981, MTV has helped define popular culture by showing music videos by everyone from Michael Jackson to U2 to 50 Cent. How have the look, sound, and overall vibe of music videos shaped Generations X, Y, and Z? Explore questions of identity, especially race, sexuality, and class with Professor Ben. Sifuentes-Jáuregui as you screen and analyze recent music videos.

Professor Sifuentes-Jáuregui researches Latino/a literatures and cultures, 20th-century Latin American cultural studies, gender theory and sexuality studies, and psychoanalysis. He is the author of Transvestism, Masculinity, and Latin American Literature; and has published articles on sexuality, queer identities in Latin America, and melodrama. He also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on such topics as Latin American and U.S. Latino/a literature, film, performance theory, and cultural practices.
